Do you know the definition of what a Penthouse or Luxury Penthouse Apartment truly is?
I have been meaning to write about this subject for quite some time. Too many sellers and their agents refer to a top floor three story or four story building as a Penthouse Unit. This is such a travesty, as well as a total misrepresentation of what a Penthouse Unit is. Luxury Penthouse Units are not just top floor units in a three or four story building.
Now, that most people have heard about the President’s Penthouse Unit in New York City, ( you know, where all the meet and greets started prior to his taking residence in the White House), his penthouse was his office. This made me focus my energy and finally write about Penthouse Units.
Well, if we look at the history of Penthouses, interestingly enough, they were introduced in the 1920’s. Yes, you guessed it in New York City is where Penthouses first came about. The Penthouse units were overlooking Central Park. The first roof top apartment at the Plaza Hotel in New York City had the first Penthouse Unit. Shortly after it Luxury Penthouse Apartments were being built around 1923 and after. Now Penthouse Units are the norm all over the Globe.
So, what makes a Penthouse Unit different from other units? Penthouses generally have more luxurious amenities such as private entrances or a private elevators or higher ceilings than the rest of the units in the building.
Their features generally consist of luxurious flooring systems, that you would not find in most of the apartments in the building. Penthouses usually have terraces, fireplaces or more outdoor flooring area compared to other units. More than likely, they will have oversized windows and a private pool or private jacuzzi to name a few. Penthouses might have luxury kitchens with industrial stainless steel cooking appliances and the list goes on and on.
Penthouse Units have the best views, no need to wonder the real question is will it have ocean views, mountain views, downtown views or all three? Most of the time a well-designed Penthouse will have all these.
So, with that said you will be paying a Premium for a real Penthouse unit. They are more desirable, there is a bigger shortage of them and higher demand.
