After RainCamp in Atlantic City we took a drive over to Philadelphia. It was a short one hour drive to the historical part of the city. Look at the gorgeous spring blossoms!

Tristan is currently studying U.S. History and the founding fathers. He absolutely loves George Washington and is super interested in the Revolutionary war. This was the perfect field trip for us as a homeschooling family.

The weather was absolutely amazing. I loved it. It was breezy in the high 40's and low 50's. Perfect walking around weather!

We started at the visitor center where we obtained our free tickets for the Independence Hall tour. We then walked over to the Liberty Bell. Tristan was  telling us all about the Liberty Bell and how it got the cracks. We did not have to read anything- our little guy was the perfect guide!

The Congress Hall was next on the list. The guide was so informative. I could have stayed there all day soaking up his history knowledge. I love history, one of my favorite subjects since I was about 8 years old. The stories that you don't read in your school history books is here. I did not know hardly any of these facts.

There were a lot of tourists from other countries taking the tours. The reverence they have for our freedoms is a great example on how we should be esteeming our very freedoms that most of the world does not enjoy and many do not embrace.

We walked over to Benjamin Franklin's square. What an amazing man. Ben only had 2 years of schooling and yet he was so way ahead of his time with all of his mighty and numerous inventions. Tristan is intrigued with Benjamin Franklin. This passageway is the exact location and original passage that Benjamin Franklin left and came home through every day that he was in town. To actually stand in that place- words can not express what I felt.

Did you know that Ben's postal store is a real post office where you can mail and buy stamps, etc? It was a British postal office back in Ben's day and it is the only post office that has never and still does not fly an American Flag.

We walked over to the U.S. Mint. Ah, what kid does not like money and coins! Tristan learned so much at the U.S. Mint. We are not allowed to take photos in the Mint.

It was now time to head back to the Independence Hall for our tour. The tour guide was excellent. She really knows her history. We learned a lot there also. This is a very amazing building. As we stood in the assembly room I felt the spirit very strong, goose bumps filled my arms as I contemplated this even standing in the very room where one of the MOST important events in the history of the world took place. The chair you see at the head table in the front is the ACTUAL chair that George Washington sat in during those hot months without air conditioning where these great men hammered away creating the world's best document.

If you have not been to Philadelphia on this tour- go when you get the opportunity. It is worth the trip. We missed seeing one of my cousins who is the executive chef at one of Phillys' top restaurants- Mercato Restaurant and she also won Food Network "Chopped". It was her day off when we were downtown. Stop by and say hi to her next time you are around.

From our family to yours! Make it a great week!
