When i was I Child growing up In Philadelphia

When I was a child growing up in Philadelphia. My mother and sister would always take me to downtown Philly to John Wanamaker's .Especially during the holiday's . There always was a wonderful holiday show .

when i was a chil growing up i philadelphia Now it is called Macy's department store and still a fabulous Philadelphia landmark with wonderful shows. Just this past weekend The Opera Company of Philadelphia co-mingled 600 singers who burst into song singing "Handel's Hallelujah Chorus".What fun and what a surprise for the shoppers I wish I had been there.

Here is a "video" I found on YouTube of the event .I hope you enjoy this "video"

Hi Hannah~  It's too bad that everyone doesn't get to experience the wonderful things Philadelphia has to offer!  I grew up near there and didn't appreciate it until I moved away!

Hi Hannah... I miss the days of local department stores.  Macy's is great, but I miss the local feeling I got shopping in stores like John Wanamaker, Strawbridge & Clothier, Bambergers, Burdines, Jordan Marsh, Joske's, Sanger-Harris, etc.

Steve..i do wish I was there ..It must have been a day to remember !

This store was Wanamakers than Strawbridge and Clothier ..I do believe John Wanamaker founded  the first department store ..

Have a wonderful weekend

Hannah, I also went to John Wannamakers as a child to see the Christmas Light Show. I was there in Dec. of 2008 and watched the same show while eating in the Macy's restaurant ! While it's not the offical "Miracle on 34th St." Macy's the old store has INCREDIBLE architectual features and charm ! The West Coast ARers in town for Raincamp should try and breeze thru it !!!!

Michael..I agree it is a Philadelphia landmark. When i was in NYC at Raincamp i went  to Macy's in NYC the shopping was amazing but the architecture was nothing compared to the one we have in Philadelphia

Thank You looking forward to meeting you at RainCamp

Well!  How cool was that?!!  No grumps in that crowd.

So that is what is called a Randam Act of Culture.
