Where to Eat Ben and Irv's Jewish Deli Justa Farm County Line Rd

2017 ben irv

Many years ago there were delicatessen's  in all the neighborhoods .Today it is really hard to find a really good deli with authentic Jewish cuisine. It is not the food it is financing and the big food chains .What a loss . Just lately Jacks a local deli in the Bustleton section of NE Philadelphia Pa closed its doors and said Good Bye to the dismay of many .

Saturday was Ben and Irv's Deli in Huntington Valley  Dinner with a friend at the neighborhood deli . The local deli is about thirty minutes away but the food is worth the ride . I had a Groupon $16 for $30  worth of food .

  • The  menu is at least three of four pages long . I love the soup . My favorite is mushroom barley . My friend ordered  matzo ball . We split a corn beef special on rye no seeds . I like mine hot she got hers cold .It is so big neither of us  could finish a whole sandwich . The service is exceptional and usually there is a line and a wait . Normally you see someone you know which we did  They stop at your table and chit chat

  • There was also a bowl of delicious pickles  on the tables . So nice and salty that my ankles swelled up on Sunday  something that has not happened to me for a very long time . Oh and did I  mention an old fashioned fountain glass of mint chocolate chip ice cream so big that I complained that I wanted a small scoop . The waitress came over and laughed graped my hand and said that is small . I said no I want a little scoop you don't understand I will eat it all. She laughed at me again. Seriously I was not trying to be funny . Eat it all I did .Then she gave me an oatmeal raisin cookie . Here she said you are just a little short of your Groupon.

Ouy Vey .  Ga Sint ter Hage - You should live and be well .  I asked my friend to leave the tip I would take care of the check  Then when you leave you stop at someones table chit chat and say good-bye

We stopped in  Hot Foot Boutique

Your photos made me hungry and I had a late dinner. It is so hard to find a good deli...even Baltimore no longer has a great one. Worth the drive to  Phila for a good sandwich.

Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland  Thankfully it is close to my office . There are only a few of them left . Even the soups are amazing and the service is second to none

Nothing better than a good deli. We had one and used to go all the time. But it's not the same anymore. Thanks for sharing and happy that this one is close to your office.

Good morning, Hannah Williams one of my favorite places in the past was a Jewish Deli in Framingham MA.... it was always packed with people....they started each table with a large serving of deli pickles.... loved them....and the sandwiches were jumbo....  those were my days of "eating".... now I look for gyms!!

Good morning Hannah.

That sounds soooo good.  It's 05:45AM and I'm already thinking about lunch

Good morning Hannah.  Nothing like a real old fashioned Jewish deli.  There really aren't any good ones in Stuart, FL just a weak imitation.

Oh yes it drips down your hands Endre Barath, Jr. I  prefer Hot Pastrami sandwich and the Mushroom Barley Soup ......It is a wonderful experience !

Barbara Todaro  everything in moderation - funny thing you should say gym - There is an awesome gym in the same shopping center - well they are kind of connected -- we could have a cup of soup and share a sandwich after your work out ... they have amazing salads if you prefer

Thank you both for joining the amazing eating  experience

James Dray  Oh dear me I made myself hungry as I am responding to your comment

Gabe Sanders  I fear some day that Jewish Deli's sone day will be a experience of the past . I remember as a child you could walk to your local deli and get great food .The smell and the real fresh rye bread all you can find as you say is cheap imitations .

Thank you both for joining the amazing eating  experience

Hi Hannah - I am so jealous. I grew up with great delis - including the bowl of pickles - but there really isn't anything here in Colorado that's even remotely close. Thanks for the memories!

Okay, you must know what I've bee thinking of Hannah. Larry and I frequent one (bascially the only one near-by) and what used to be family friendly, I am noticing that each seat is always filled by the baby-boomer crowd!

Sounds like my kind of place, Hannah. There were a couple wonderful delis in the Boston area (I've forgotten the names) that we enjoyed immensely. There is something very special about a great deli!
