Do You Want to Use Another Credit Card

I recently read a post by Liz and Bill Spear called  Eyes Wide Open . It made me think so I checked and canceled a membership I had that was not bringing me any benefit's . Money that was not well spent and could be put to better use .

 

 

When doing so I was told I would be getting a call and email  to see why I was leaving. I would get a personal call to see what it would take to get me to stay  . Well no call or email but I did get an email saying they tried to charge my credit card (which thankfully thanks to Holiday shopping was denied ) would I like to use another credit card  card?  I quickly responded that I had canceled their service . 

 

 

 

I was then instructed that they would send me an email with a link . It would only be good for 15 minutes to cancel .  I did this and typed in cancel . Well typing in cancel was not good enough . It had to be typed all in caps- which I did .  I do not know about you but having to type it all  in caps did make me laugh and really made me know I made the right decision to cancel

 

 

With my eyes wide open ....

 

Are there any memberships you may want to cancel this year ?

If You do make sure they cancel and do not automatically charge your account

Hi Hannah Williams ,
Why does life have to be so complicated?  Their tactics only make it obvious why you canceled and now you're telling us about it.  Not a good strategy, I'd say. Can you tell us what the membership was so we might be forewarned?   I did sign up on a one year $1 per month subscription to Hulu.  I've had it for two months now and haven't gotten $2 worth of value.  Guess I should go ahead and cancel that.  I'm actually upping my subscriptions to educational services. Just signed up for another yesterday.  That one WILL give me more than my money's worth, of that I am sure.

Hannah Williams I wish I could cancel those dang google calls! No matter how many times I push 2 they keep coming. I decided to push 1 and tell them I want to cancel but as soon as I tell them I want to cancel they hang up on me... and the calls keep coming.

Hannah the other thing they will do is to say that your credit scores will drop because you are reducing your available credit.  That is true if you only have 2 or 3 credit cards with low limits.  However, even if you only have 2 or 3 other credit cards but with reasonable higher limits, it will have very little impact on credit scores.

Hannah- the older I get the more I want to simplify my leave. I loved Liz and Bill Spear 's post Eyes Wide Open and it never hurts to assess what we're doing and if we need what we have.

It's sad that there is whole industry centered around scamming people. I unsubscribe from most emails that I get or mark them as junk.

Other than utilities I have two accounts, one for the home and the other for my new vehicle.  Otherwise, I have no credit cards etc.

Hannah some companies make it difficult with they can't accept you no longer need or want their service. Annoying for sure. One of them tried to renew but thankfully that card had been replaced and they had no way to do so.

Kathy Streib  Exactly right can not agree with you more . That is what made me think . I really do not need this service .So glad I did this . Have a few more to reevaluate

Hannah I only use Amex, they are so vigilant and if there is a problem a phone call and they are on my side every time... I might have told you about a marketing scam I was taken for a few years ago ...lot of $$$$ and they stood behind me...Endre

Oh, these tactics really do annoy me too, Hannah! Just CANCEL the darn thing and leave me alone! I wouldn't be cancelling if I didn't want to! 

I was tweaking my business & marketing plans in October and wanted to move some marketing money over to something that was very useful for me this year. So, I cancelled a couple of things that were just not pulling their weight in the ROI department!  Like with your experience, they don't make it easy to do!
